As you may be aware, the 82nd iteration of the Texas
Legislature introduced HB 602, which would have allowed Texas
craft breweries to allow guests to take home up to a 12-pack
of beer after attending a brewery tour. In effect, this would
have allowed breweries to operate along the same lines that
Texas wineries have for years now. The decision to pass such
legislation seems to be a no-brainer, right? Giving small
businesses in Texas the access to free-market segments
previously (and unjustly) withheld from them would be the
prudent gesture, especially considering our current economic
conditions. Anheuser-Busch/InBev, in an attempt to subjugate
craft beer's growth in the market, cashed in on their
extensive political investments and single-handedly killed the
bill. AB/InBev has proven time and again that they have no
interest in a free market and that they will do anything to
maintain their monopoly.
Christy and I do not support the actions of AB/InBev (a
foreign-owned company) treating the Texas Legislature as its
privately owned enforcement division. Our own small business,
The Dig Pub, was born out of the desire to promote artisanal
breweries, and we are elated to see the burgeoning craft beer
market that has developed in our own back yard. It is our
desire to provide our customers with a high-quality product
from businesses that you can be proud to support. As a result
of their reckless act of nepotism, any product owned or brewed
by AB/InBev will no longer be offered at The Dig Pub. We
encourage all of our customers to think for themselves, but if
you are so inclined to speak with your consumer dollar we have
included a link to all brands held by
Anheuser-Busch/InBev.
Thank you for your continued support of The Dig Pub and
craft beer!
Sincerely,
Todd and Christy
